Which audio format should you choose?
MP3 plays everywhere and keeps files small; 128 kbps is plenty for speech, 192–320 kbps for music. WAV is uncompressed: large files, no quality loss, the right choice for editing. M4A (AAC) sounds slightly better than MP3 at the same size and is the default on iPhones. OGG and Opus are what WhatsApp and Telegram use for voice messages; many players and CRMs do not accept them, which is why people convert them to MP3.
Private by design
Online converters usually upload your file to their server. These converters decode and encode inside your browser with the Web Audio API, so voice messages and private recordings never leave your device. Chrome and Edge support the most input formats.
Need the words, not the audio?
If you are converting a recording only to get its text, skip the conversion: upload the original file to the transcriber. It accepts OGG, Opus, M4A, MP4 and the other formats directly.

Frequently asked questions
Is the audio converter free?
Yes, with no limits and no account. Your computer does the work, so there is no server cost to pass on.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in the browser tab and the file stays on your device.
Why does my browser refuse a file?
The browser decodes the audio with its own codecs. Chrome and Edge handle OGG, Opus, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, WebM and MP4; Safari and Firefox may refuse some of them.
Can I convert video to audio?
Yes. The video converters keep only the soundtrack and save it as MP3 or WAV.
