What you get from a video transcript

A transcript is the spoken words of the video written out as readable text. Audiotexta splits it into paragraphs, adds punctuation and marks who is speaking, so an interview or a meeting recording reads like a document rather than a wall of words.

  • Timestamps on every segment, so you can jump back to any quote in the video
  • Speaker labels you rename once for the whole file
  • Subtitles: the same transcript exported as SRT or VTT with properly timed lines
  • On Pro: AI summary, chapters, translation and DOCX or PDF export

Video formats and sources

You can upload the video file itself; there is no need to extract the audio first. Audiotexta accepts MP4, MOV (including iPhone recordings), WebM, MKV and M4V. For videos online, paste a link from YouTube, Vimeo or a direct link to a media file. Recorded calls from Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams are ordinary MP4 or M4A files and work the same way.

Transcript or subtitles?

Use the transcript when you want to read, quote, search or summarise what was said. Use SRT or VTT when the text has to appear on screen in sync with the video. Both come from the same transcription, so you can download both from one upload.

What the transcriber does not do

Audiotexta transcribes speech. It does not read text that is shown on screen (slides, captions burned into the picture, signs), and it does not describe what happens visually. A video with music but no talking produces an empty or near-empty transcript.

How long it takes

Most videos are ready in a fraction of their running time: a 20-minute video usually takes a few minutes, depending on the queue. Long files up to 10 hours are possible on Pro. You can close the tab; the transcript stays in your file list.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a video to text for free?

Upload the video or paste its link on this page. Files up to 30 minutes and 120 minutes a month are free without an account, including timestamps, speaker labels and TXT, SRT and VTT downloads.

Can AI transcribe video to text automatically?

Yes. Speech recognition does the whole transcript for you: punctuation, paragraphs, timestamps and speaker labels are added automatically. You only review names and jargon in the editor.

Can I transcribe a video without downloading it?

Yes. To transcribe a video link to text, paste a YouTube or Vimeo link, or a direct link to a video file, and the audio is fetched for you. Private videos that need a login cannot be fetched; download those and upload the file instead.

Which video formats are supported?

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and M4V. You do not need to convert the video to MP3 first.

How accurate is video transcription?

On clear speech most sentences come back correct. Background music, several people talking at once and poor microphones add errors, which you fix in the editor while the video plays.

Can I get subtitles instead of plain text?

Yes. Every transcript can be downloaded as SRT or VTT subtitles with lines timed to the speech.

Does it work for videos in other languages?

Yes, speech in 98+ languages is recognised. On Pro you can translate the transcript into another language next to the original.
